The People and Health Overview Committee backed the document, which sets out Dorset Council’s priorities and approach for meeting local housing needs over the next 5 years, across the council area.
The strategy draws on research into housing issues locally and nationally, and was also shaped by internal and external stakeholder engagement and 2,137 responses to a 10 week public consultation in total.
Lead member for housing, Councillor Graham Carr Jones, said the strategy supports “affordable, suitable, secure homes” for residents in Dorset communities, and called it a “living document” because challenges continue to change.
He said the council had to be “bold and forthright” in its thinking and work collaboratively, with the strategy now due before Cabinet on 5 December and Full Council on 14 December.
