A Bournemouth University team has returned to a Dorset field to investigate a medieval farmstead.
Dr Derek Pitman first identified the site during a student training excavation in 2018, when substantial walls were uncovered but there was not enough evidence to confirm the date, use or occupants.
He later returned with archaeologists and heritage specialists from Bournemouth University, Forestry England, Wessex Archaeology, the National Trust and TCMS Heritage, reopening the investigation with a larger team.
The structure is now believed to be a farmstead recorded on a local 15th century map, and its location in a field on the edge of Poole Harbour is thought to have been confirmed.
Dr Pitman said the site had "bugged me" since 2018, adding that the team wanted to "answer some of those questions" about why the structure was there after their earlier trench revealed walls beneath the field.
He said the field is part of a wider archaeological landscape where people have lived and worked for centuries, and a documentary about the project is due to be released on Friday.
