A new Christchurch photography exhibition explores cold water swimming through the experiences of local sea swimmers.

Floating Worlds has been created by Dorset photographer Heather Field, who worked with seven Chilly Dippers, a sea swimming group linked with Chill Dorset.

Field first photographed the swimmers from the shore, then joined them in the water over 10 weeks to understand the physical and emotional experience more closely, saying: "I needed to join them."

The exhibition uses photographs of different scales and materials to show moments between shoreline and sea, and it is the final project from Field’s MA Photography studies at Arts University Bournemouth, where she recently graduated.

It opens with a reception on Tuesday 24 November at Bridge Health and Wellbeing on Bridge Street, Christchurch, and continues until Friday 27 November, with donations invited for Chill Dorset.

Jo Cox, hub leader at Chill Dorset, said the group had "loved working with Heather" and that Field had captured how swimmers "feel" and "see" the sea.

Louise O’Connell, one of Bridge Health and Wellbeing’s founders, said Chill Dorset was "making a difference to people right here in Christchurch" through supported courses for adults with long term health conditions.
