BCP councillors will consider plans to repair Bournemouth Pier, reopen access at East Cliff and strengthen coastal protection using existing Government funding. Plans to improve Bournemouth’s seafront and East Cliff will be considered by BCP councillors.
The proposals would use existing Government funding to support work on Bournemouth Pier, improve accessibility along the seafront and strengthen protection for parts of the coastline in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
At Bournemouth Pier, the plans include removing deteriorating timber landing stages, a concern highlighted by residents and specialist engineering advice, as well as carrying out structural repairs to vulnerable sections.
Further engineering inspections have identified new priorities at East Cliff, where parts of the promenade and clifftop remain closed after landslips, and the proposed stabilisation work would aim to reduce future slips and help reopen access.
Councillor Millie Earl, Leader of BCP Council, said the plans were about making Government funding go further for local communities, and said investment at East Cliff could “protect vital infrastructure” and make the coastline “safer and more resilient”.
The proposals will be discussed at BCP Council’s Cabinet meeting on 2 September, when councillors are expected to consider how the existing Government funding should be directed across the seafront work.
