A new sculpture on Bournemouth’s West Cliff has been shaped by local schoolchildren and community groups as part of a government funded heritage trail. A new coastal sculpture has been installed on Bournemouth’s West Cliff after local community input.
The artwork, which is called Lean Into the Wind, reflects Bournemouth’s seaside identity and was developed with ideas from schoolchildren and community groups across the area before being installed on the cliffs as part of work to reflect the town’s coastal character.
It forms part of BCP Council’s Coastal Public Art and Heritage Trail, which is funded by the UK Government and is designed to help people explore local heritage through free, accessible artwork.
Councillor Andy Martin, BCP Council’s cabinet member for culture, communications and customer, said he was "delighted" to see the sculpture in place and said it celebrates Bournemouth’s coastline and identity.
Installation has now finished, and the council says temporary fencing will start to come down next week while some low level fencing stays briefly so newly seeded meadow grass can establish.
