Christchurch will mark Remembrance Sunday this weekend with services, a parade and temporary road closures.

Residents are invited to join the commemorations this Sunday, when veterans, service organisations, civic representatives, community groups and residents will gather across the town to "honour those who have served and sacrificed" from past and present generations.

Proceedings will begin at nine fifteen in the morning with a short service at Purewell Cross War Memorial, before parade participants assemble in Bargates and set off at 10am behind the Christchurch Royal British Legion Band.

The parade will travel along Bargates and the High Street to Christchurch Priory, where a wreath laying ceremony will be held in the Garden of Remembrance before the main service, which is "open to the public", begins at about 10.50am.

After the service, participants will form the return parade through the town centre, with proceedings due to finish in Bargates shortly after midday and roads expected to reopen fully by about 12.50pm.

Bargates will close to through traffic from about half past nine in the morning, and rolling closures will affect parts of the route between Bargates and Christchurch Priory during the outward and return processions.
