Residents are being invited to discuss new protection plans for Christchurch Harbour at a public meeting.
The Action for Christchurch Harbour and Waterways event will be held at the Regent Centre on Tuesday 1 September at 6pm, with organisations involved in managing local waterways due to answer questions from residents.
Concerns about water quality, pollution and biodiversity have led residents, community groups and councillors to seek more action for the harbour, which supports wildlife, recreation, tourism and local livelihoods in Christchurch.
The council's Environment and Place Overview and Scrutiny Committee recently recommended faster work on a dedicated protection policy for Christchurch Harbour, following a similar approach already used for nearby Poole Harbour.
The meeting will be chaired by Commons Ward Councillor Vanessa Ricketts, after petitions to Full Council and proposals to the scrutiny committee, with speakers from Wessex Water, the Environment Agency, Natural England and other bodies.
Deputy Leader Councillor Mike Cox said the council has "little power itself over water quality" but can "bring people and organisations together" as residents take part in the discussion about the harbour's future.
