Coastal maintenance work has started on Christchurch beaches between Avon Beach and Highcliffe.
The project began on Monday 7 September and is expected to take up to 7 weeks, depending on weather and tides, while the beach and promenade stay open with temporary cordons in some work areas.
The South West Flood and Coastal team is delivering the work with local contractor Earlcoate Construction, and it includes strengthening existing groynes with new rock armour, replacing failed groyne markers and moving built up beach material west from Highcliffe to top up nearby beaches.
Councillor Andy Hadley, BCP Council's portfolio holder for climate response, environment and energy, said the coastline is “enjoyed by residents and visitors throughout the year” and that the work would keep defences operating effectively.
Visitors are being told machinery, vehicle movements and rock stockpiles will be present in some places while the work is under way, and they should follow signs, keep clear of working areas and keep dogs on leads where requested.
