Motor traffic could be restricted on part of Holdenhurst Road under plans to improve bus reliability.
BCP Council is consulting on changes between Lansdowne Roundabout and Station Roundabout, with related restrictions proposed for Lansdowne Crescent and Cotlands Road, and the route would be limited to buses, taxis, cyclists and vehicles that need access.
The proposals form part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan, which covers Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and would also add or change bus stop clearways, parking bays and loading areas along Holdenhurst Road.
On Cotlands Road, no waiting and no loading restrictions would replace an existing taxi bay opposite Tamarisk House, while a 31 metre section near Holdenhurst Road would become one way for cyclists only.
A bus only section is also proposed on the entry slip to St Paul’s Road, which the council says would help buses move through the network more easily and improve safety near Station Roundabout and Lansdowne.
Consultation on both proposals runs until the ninth of October, and residents can give their views through the council highways consultation page before a decision is made on the traffic orders locally.
Councillor Andy Hadley said earlier consultation showed 72 per cent support overall, and said the changes would “reduce the journey times” for buses while keeping access for residents, employees and businesses.
