The Junction Sports and Leisure Centre in Broadstone, operated by YMCB Bournemouth, has been improved for local users.

Work carried out between August and October has included a new resin-based surround for the swimming pool, upgraded lighting, redecoration and an ultraviolet disinfection system, which is designed to reduce chlorine use.

Major sections of roof panelling have also been replaced, with additional solar panels installed to help manage energy use, while the gymnasium is getting new resistance equipment, flooring and functional training improvements.

The sports hall floor is due to be stripped, repainted and sealed in December, so it can continue to support sporting and community activities at the centre through the year.

YMCA Bournemouth Chief executive Dr Gareth Sherwood said “The Junction is much more than a building”, with people using it each week to swim, exercise, meet others and support their own wellbeing.

He said visible improvements and work behind the scenes are both important, because the charity wants the centre to remain a community facility for people in Broadstone and the wider Poole area.
