Plans have been submitted to bring Bournemouth’s winter wonderland back every winter for the next five years.
The proposal would see the festive event return to Bournemouth Lower Gardens, alongside the Christmas market and other events in Bournemouth Square and Pier Approach, from mid November until the start of January if approval is granted.
Documents list attractions including a walkthrough Christmas tree display, a Christmas tree maze, Wonderland Tipis, an Alpine Chalet, a Christmas train, games stalls and Christmas rides, while the ice rink is planned for about 8 weeks.
A design and access statement says the rink would have 9 skating sessions a day, 7 days a week, excluding Christmas Day, and a pre application enquiry found the principle of temporary Christmas installations was “well established”.
The previous application was withdrawn on January 7 after the event ended, following committee discussion of Biodiversity Net Gain issues linked to a felled cherry tree, which documents described as a “strange quirk”.
The latest application, which carries reference P/26/04118/FUL, is open for consultation until October 2, with specific event dates still to be confirmed before BCP Council makes a decision.
