Epic: First Semester was released globally on 11 September 2026. The university is a main location in the story, which follows an aspiring filmmaker who leaves India for a master’s degree in Bournemouth and faces academic pressure, unfamiliar surroundings, part-time work and financial difficulties.
The production also gave BU students roles behind the camera and as background extras. Staff across the university helped the crew with filming and accommodation, with Media School lecturer Dr Karl Rawstone and Campus Operations Manager Jim Evans coordinating much of that support.
Media Production graduate Megan Farrer worked as a runner. She called it her “first official work experience” and said she has since worked on another feature film as a camera operator and on a Sky production as a runner.
In the film, Aditya’s connection with fellow student Kadali leaves him weighing his family’s plans against his ambition to become a filmmaker. A trailer showing scenes filmed at BU is available on IMDb.
