A Bournemouth town centre Savers store has been given permission to sell alcohol from its premises.

The company applied for a premises licence for its branch on Old Christchurch Road, with councillors considering the request at a licensing meeting on August 5 after concerns were raised about antisocial behaviour.

Committee members were told Savers has sold alcohol in its stores since 2012 and holds licences at about 320 UK locations, while alcohol products account for around 1 per cent of sales.

The business said it is not a specialist alcohol retailer and set out measures to address crime, disorder and public nuisance, including staff training, CCTV, entrance security and alcohol displays near the tills.

It also plans to take part in the Bournemouth Shop Watch Radio Scheme, which was presented as another measure linked to managing issues at the Old Christchurch Road town centre store.

A decision notice published on August 19 said the committee considered all representations, but concluded Savers had “significant experience of operating licensed premises” before granting the licence for the Bournemouth branch.
