A Bournemouth man has been jailed for a knife assault in Boscombe Gardens.
James Junior Cunningham, 19, of Bournemouth, was sentenced to 11 years and 9 months in prison after admitting inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a bladed article.
The assault happened on the evening of Thursday 19 December 2025 in the Boscombe Gardens area. Dorset Police said Cunningham used a knife to cause 3 stab wounds to the victim's face and head.
The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life threatening or life changing.
Detectives launched a detailed investigation and Cunningham was arrested and charged after enquiries linked him to the attack. He was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Tuesday 25 August 2026.
Detective Constable Jack Gibson said: "This was a nasty assault which could have had an even more tragic outcome." He said "fast time enquiries" identified Cunningham as the attacker and brought him before the court.
He added there was "no excuse for carrying a knife" and Dorset Police would continue work to remove knife crime from the streets.
