Tonight’s fireworks at Bournemouth beach have been cancelled because of unsafe conditions at sea.
BCP Council said high winds mean the fireworks cannot be launched from the usual barge, so the seafront display planned for this evening will not go ahead as scheduled tonight.
Councillor Richard Herrett, portfolio holder for destination, leisure and commercial operations, said the display was “regrettably cancelled” because high winds at sea meant it “cannot be safely launched” from the barge.
He said the council and its partners had done everything they could to make the display happen, but accepted many residents, visitors and businesses would be frustrated after looking forward to its return.
An additional display is planned at Poole Quay on 3 September, while next Friday’s Bournemouth beach display on 4 September will now be a larger finale for the summer season.
The cancellation applies to tonight’s Bournemouth beach fireworks only, with the council confirming the Poole Quay event and next week’s Bournemouth display as the available alternatives for the season ahead.
