Plans have been submitted to replace a grass football pitch at Bournemouth Electric Football Club.
The club, based at Broadway Lane, wants to upgrade its main pitch and surrounding area with an artificial surface, new perimeter fencing, a runoff area and 8 lighting columns, each 15m high.
Founded in 1935 as a social base for Southern Electricity Board staff, Bournemouth Electric Football Club now supports more than 12 teams, including men’s, women’s and veterans’ sides at the site.
It currently has a full size adult grass pitch, a training pitch, changing rooms, car parking and a clubhouse, with the new application saying the work would reduce reliance on weather.
A planning statement said the new facilities would mean “less reliance on the weather and reduced maintenance costs”, while the club says the scheme would remove the need to rent other venues for training and matches.
The plans are open for consultation until August 28, giving residents and other interested parties the chance to comment before BCP Council considers the application for the Broadway Lane site.
