BCP Council’s cabinet has backed sending the proposed contract for the former West Beach Cafe on West Beach Promenade to a full council meeting, after previous tenant Sandy Feet Ltd left the property.

The site was marketed through agents appointed by the council, but the name of the proposed operator has not been released because the information is “commercially sensitive” at this stage.

Councillor Richard Herrett told the meeting there had been 13 expressions of interest, with three operators invited for interview and presentation as part of a “very competitive process” for the site.

He said the offer included a “high rental return”, “strong financial standing” and “significant private sector investment”, and cabinet members agreed to hold a confidential briefing for all councillors before the council debate.

The cabinet unanimously supported recommending approval of a new 20-year lease, with the contract due to go before the next full council meeting on October 13 for a final decision.
