A five bedroom HMO has been approved for a family house in Boscombe.

Planning permission has been granted to convert four Warwick Road, a semi detached house, into a house in multiple occupation, with two ground floor bedrooms, three upstairs bedrooms, a shared kitchen and dining space, and a study.

Neighbours submitted three objections, raising concerns about parking, noise and the loss of family homes in the area, while Boscombe East and Pokesdown councillors George Farquhar and Eleanor Connolly questioned HMO density at today’s planning meeting.

During the debate, Councillor Patrick Canavan said he was “very concerned about another HMO in this area”, adding that some schemes were trying to “cram them in wherever developers can”.

A move to refuse the plan over the concentration of HMOs was defeated by four votes to three, before Councillor Toby Slade said members should “reluctantly accept this” because he was unsure refusal would survive an appeal.

The application was then approved by four votes to three, with conditions that require a formal property management plan for the address and limit the converted house to five residents.
