Police are investigating after a bird was reportedly targeted with a catapult in Poole Park.
The report was made at around 4.05pm on Monday 24 August, when a group of young people were said to be using catapults with metal ball bearings to target wildlife in the park.
Officers searched the area and arrested 2 boys aged 14 from Bournemouth. They were held on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in public, and attempting to kill a wild bird.
Both boys have been released on police bail while enquiries continue. Police Constable Oliver Gosling, of Poole police, said there were "a number of people out enjoying the park" during the afternoon.
He urged anyone who saw what happened to get in touch, adding that "We take reports of this nature seriously" and will act where wildlife is believed to have been targeted.
