A residents’ discount card is now being used by thousands of people across BCP.

BCP Council launched the BCP LIFE card after a full business case identified financial risks, including possible reductions in parking, seafront catering and leisure income, according to information released through a Freedom of Information request.

The documents said the preferred option would need extra funding beyond the first year budget, with Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership reserve funds and future card sales income proposed to help cover the gap.

The authority has confirmed that 3,548 residents and 59 businesses have signed up, with offers available across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from council services and firms in retail, hospitality and leisure.

Councillor Richard Herrett, portfolio holder for destination, leisure and commercial operations, said cardholders are using benefits such as an “extra hour of free parking”, a “free monthly swim” and savings on seafront coffees.

He said nearly 60 businesses are offering discounts through the scheme, which also includes savings on yoga, plumbing and broadband, and said the card is intended to “ease cost of living pressures”.
