External inspectors will help check food businesses across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from August.
BCP Council has awarded a 5 year food inspection contract to Osborne Richardson Limited in High Holborn and The Oyster Partnership Limited in Westminster, following an open procurement process run by the council.
The agreement is expected to run from August 26 to August 25, 2031, but a standstill period means the contracts cannot be signed until August 26, following the council decision on August 14.
The companies are expected to provide environmental safety inspections for around 1,800 eateries each year, supporting council teams responsible for more than 4,000 registered food businesses across the BCP area.
The council says it already carries out more than 2,000 food hygiene inspections annually and receives about 900 food related complaints and enquiries each year as part of its statutory role.
Councillor Andy Martin said inspections help keep "residents and visitors safe" and give people confidence in restaurants, pubs and takeaways, while extra inspectors allow officers to focus on investigations and enforcement activity.
