More than 6,400 adult safeguarding alerts were logged across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in a year.

An independent review is due to go before BCP Council’s health and wellbeing board on Monday, setting out the main protection issues for adults who may be at risk across the council area.

The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Safeguarding Adults Board annual report covers the period from April 2025 to March 2026. It looks at the part played by partner agencies in keeping vulnerable residents safe.

The report says 6,428 alerts were received during 2025 to 2026. Of these, 1,239 became formal Section 42 enquiries, mainly involving neglect, financial harm and incidents in people’s own homes.

It is the final year of the board’s three year strategy for 2023 to 2026, which has also included joint work with the Dorset Safeguarding Adults Board.

The report says stronger work between agencies, learning from statutory safeguarding reviews and support from health and care providers can help protect residents from “avoidable harm”. It adds that safeguarding is “everybody’s business”.
