Drivers using Bakers Arms Roundabout near Lytchett Minster face lane restrictions throughout November as drainage maintenance begins.
The work will take place from 1 to 30 November 2026 at the busy junction connecting the A35 and A351, with Dorset Council aiming to reduce the risk of flooding and traffic disruption during the winter months.
The roundabout will remain open throughout the programme, although lane closures on its approaches are expected to cause delays, particularly during peak periods, and motorists are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Maintenance will include inspecting drainage systems, removing blockages, cleaning pipes, carrying out minor repairs and clearing surrounding ditches, following major improvements completed in 2025 to increase drainage capacity after previous flooding during prolonged heavy rainfall.
Councillor Jack Jeanes, Dorset Council's Cabinet Member for Place Services, said regular maintenance remains essential and acknowledged the timing coincides with the temporary closure of the Sandbanks Chain Ferry.
He said: "Completing this maintenance ahead of winter is important in helping to reduce the risk of flooding-related disruption later in the year."
The council warns that exceptionally heavy rainfall, particularly combined with high tides, could still cause localised flooding despite the improvements.
