A late night licence for an Ashley Cross bar has been reduced after noise objections.

Magna Carta, on Bournemouth Road, had asked BCP Council for permission to supply alcohol until two thirty am and play recorded music until three am on Friday and Saturday nights.

The application went to the licensing committee on 15 September after 19 formal objections from neighbours, who raised concerns about late night noise, shouting and antisocial behaviour near the venue.

After hearing from residents, ward councillors and Environmental Health, the committee approved a shorter licence which runs to two am at weekends and a decision notice said a three am finish was “not appropriate”.

Councillors also added a condition requiring dedicated bottle bins at exit doors, with staff told to stop customers from leaving with bottles or glasses after public nuisance concerns were considered.

Councillor Emily Pankhurst, who spoke for objectors, welcomed the refusal of a three am finish and said she was pleased the sub committee had “heeded the concerns” raised by residents.
