The biggest event of the month is Arts by the Sea, returning to Bournemouth town centre and the gardens on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September.
This year’s theme is ELEMENTAL, with free outdoor performances, installations, music and entertainment. One of the headline spectacles is Frequency Rider, combining performers, music and huge bolts of electricity.
Before then, Poole gets its own big festival weekend with Seafood & Sounds on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. Poole Quay, the Old Town and town centre will be filled with seafood, live music and family entertainment, with the festival expanding further up the High Street this year.
Christchurch Quay hosts Classic Cars on the Quay on 6 and 20 September.
Sport brings some big dates as well. AFC Bournemouth host Brentford at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday 12 September, followed by Liverpool on Sunday 20 September. The Bournemouth International Triathlon takes place from West Cliff Gardens on Sunday 13 September.
There’s a particularly busy month on the stages. David Essex is at Bournemouth Pavilion on 8 September, Tom Bailey from the Thompson Twins on the 12th, while Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley, Joe Pasquale and Shane Richie bring The Prat Pack to the BIC on the 15th. Tony Blackburn hosts Sounds of the 60s Live at the Pavilion, and Freya Ridings performs at Lighthouse Poole.
Later in the month, Alan Davies brings his first stand-up tour in a decade to Bournemouth Pavilion on the 22nd, John Barrowman is at Lighthouse the same evening, and Jane McDonald arrives at the BIC on the 24th. Michael Ball performs at the Pavilion and the South Coast Darts Showdown comes to the BIC on Saturday 26 September.
Christchurch has a slightly quieter programme, but alongside the classic cars there are regular Monday markets in the High Street, Swing Unlimited at the Regent Centre on 6 September, a special Christchurch Priory World War Two tour on the 8th and a local book launch at PizzaExpress on the 29th.
The month finishes with more theatre: Swan Lake comes to Bournemouth Pavilion on Tuesday 29 September, while Heathers the Musical begins a five-night run at Lighthouse Poole the same evening.
