More than £7 million has been approved for a major regeneration of Ringwood Market Place and Market Square.
New Forest District Council's Cabinet has agreed the funding to help transform the town centre, with plans to create more pedestrian-friendly spaces and improve accessibility.
The improvements would provide better connections between Market Place, the High Street, The Furlong and surrounding areas, making it easier for residents and visitors to move around.
The redesigned public spaces would also accommodate markets, outdoor dining, festivals and community events, with the aim of encouraging more people to visit and spend time in the town centre.
The investment will fund detailed design work and future construction, although a timetable for the improvements has not yet been announced.
The money will come from Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy contributions, which are paid by developers to fund infrastructure improvements.
Councillor Derek Tipp, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economy, said: "Ringwood's Market Place sits at the heart of the town and plays an important role in its identity and economy.
"The ambition is to create a high-quality public space that supports local businesses, strengthens the town centre and provides lasting benefits for residents and visitors."
He said the funding was an important milestone that would allow the project to move towards delivery.
The regeneration forms part of a wider programme of community infrastructure projects agreed by the council in August 2026.
The latest decision follows further work to examine how the scheme will be delivered and funded.
