Man in his 80s seriously injured following incident with lorry in Christchurch

Police are looking for witnesses.

A man was taken to hospital following an incident with a lorry which closed the A35 in Christchurch on Wednesday morning.

Dorset Police received a report at 11.49am on Wednesday 10 May 2023 that a man had sustained injuries on Barrack Road. It was reported that the male pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s, had been injured by material falling from a lorry near to the Shell petrol station.

Officers attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are believed to be serious. His next of kin has been informed.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and road closures have been put in place as an examination of the scene is conducted.

Police Constable Tracey Downer, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or drivers who were in the area and may have captured anything relevant on dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the closures.”
